Good News from the Shake It Up! Café

THIS WEEK’S GOSPEL: MATTHEW 10: 40-42 (MESSAGE)

We are intimately linked in this harvest work. Anyone who accepts what you do, accepts me, the One who sent you. Anyone who accepts what I do accepts my Father, who sent me. Accepting a messenger of God is as good as being God's messenger. Accepting someone's help is as good as giving someone help. This is a large work I've called you into, but don't be overwhelmed by it. It's best to start small. Give a cool cup of water to someone who is thirsty, for instance. The smallest act of giving or receiving makes you a true apprentice. You won't lose out on a thing.

This morning at Christ Church, our children led us in an energetic worship service filled with all the things they learned, experienced and made during this week’s Vacation Bible School called Shake It Up! Café.

Along with learning to prepare, to give and to remember, they shared songs and games with the congregation all while reminding us of the importance of giving. As a part of VBS, the children made Manna Bags which are filled with essential items like a toothbrush, toothpaste, washcloth, food, water and a simple message that reads, “You are loved by children and people of Christ Church,” to be given to folks in need. This simple act of faith encourages us to remember that all people are loved by God and are to be loved by us.

Like the message of the Gospel, this morning the children of Christ Church reminded us of the truth in the lesson of starting small in order to love big. Our children are great teachers and disciples.

Thanks be to God.
